Why We Love This Recipe:

  • GLUTEN FREE – this recipe uses almond flour or almond meal and is gluten free.
  • HEALTHY – better than Krispy Kreme Donuts, these are sugar free donuts. The kids will not notice the difference! Get the kids to help you make them and fill them with their favourite donut toppings, glaze or donut sprinkles.
  • EASY – these almond flour donuts take less than 30 minutes to be ready.
  • DELICIOUS – they are fluffy, cake-like, and perfectly sweet.
Keto Donuts ingredients laid out in bowls with labels so you know what is in the recipe.

Keto Donuts Ingredients

  • Almond meal – use almond flour or almond meal. I have not tested this recipe with a nut-free alternative.
  • Whey Protein Isolate – gives keto donuts structure and a light and crisp outer shell.
  • Sweetener – use whatever sweetener you enjoy the most. I use Sukrin:1 erythritol as it has no aftertaste or cooling effect.

How to Make Keto Donuts

Step 1. PREHEAT oven 170℃ fan/190°C static/375°F. Spray or grease a donut pan and set aside. Add all ingredients to a mixing bowl, Thermomix or food processor.

Step 2. Mix until combined.

Step 3. FILL Spoon or pipe the batter into the donut pan (see notes). Fill each hole about 3/4 full.

Step 4. BAKE 15-20 minutes until or lightly golden and cooked through. Remove from the pan and cool on a wire rack.

Step 5. Mix the remaining sweetener and cinnamon and sprinkle onto a large plate. Once the donuts have cooled, dip them into the melted butter and roll in the powdered cinnamon sugar. Serve while they are warm as they are so incredibly delicious at this time.

Step 6. The donuts can be cooled completely and dipped in melted chocolate, coated in ganache, or filled with keto whipped cream and berries, as pictured.

Variations

  • Classic Glazed Keto Donuts: combine 1/4 cup powdered sweetener and a tablespoon of cream. Use for traditional glazed donuts made with keto-friendly ingredients.
  • Chocolate-Frosted Keto Donuts: A rich and decadent chocolate glaze recipe to satisfy your chocolate cravings. I just use melted sugar free chocolate and sprinkles for mine.
  • Donut Holes: A delightful twist on the classic cinnamon sugar donut, without the guilt. Use a mini muffin pan or donut hole pan to bake a lot of keto donut holes!
  • Donut Muffins: scoop the doughnut batter into muffin holes and bake. Fill a piping bag with keto whipped cream, Keto Lemon Curd, keto custard, chocolate ganache or even keto chocolate mousse and pipe into the centre when cooled.

Notes

Ingredients for Low Carb Donuts
  • Almond meal – use almond flour or almond meal. I have not tested this recipe with a nut-free alternative.
  • Whey Protein Isolate – gives keto donuts structure and a light and crisp outer shell.
  • Sweetener – use whatever sweetener you enjoy the most. I use Sukrin:1 erythritol or monk fruit sweetener (with erythritol) as they has no aftertaste or cooling effect.
  • Baking powder and baking soda – I use Bob’s Red Mill Baking Powder; it is a double acting that helps to give a better rise and light and fluffy texture to baked goods. If you don’t have it use 2 teaspoons of baking powder and 1 teaspoon of baking soda.
Baking Low Carb Donuts
If you do not have a donut pan use a cup cake mould or muffin pan. The times should be around the same depending on the sizes you make. I spoon the batter into the donut pan but you can pipe it. This batter is not suited to fried donuts.
Storage
The donuts can be stored in the fridge for up to 1 week or frozen for up to 1 month.
To Serve:
I like mine with black coffee, and as pictured with the whipped cream and strawberries. We do have an amazing Blue Jam recipe in Keto Mojo, or Lynda’s Apricot Jam in Keto Loco if you would like yours filled with jelly or jam filled donut.

Today is international donut day.(Or so my daughter told me.) What better way to celebrate than baking these. I used the thermo method, so easy. They turned out great. Unfortunately not all of them made it to the cream and berry stage.😉
